The Combustion Institute Program Planning Committee decisions on presentations have been completed. With a record number of 1315 papers submitted, the selection process for presentations at the 36th International Symposium on Combustion proved challenging. The committee relied on intense preparation of the Colloquium Chairs and Co-Chairs. Program Co-Chairs, Peter Glarborg and Assaad Masri convened with CI Administrator, Barb Waronek and President, Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus, in Sydney, Australia to plan the program in March 2016.

The Program Planning Committee has now released an update with details on the process, and are pleased to announce two limitations have been overcome to keep the acceptance in line with that of previous Symposia:

  • The number of presentations increased by adding a ninth session. The addition allows the schedule to combine high-level scientific discussions.
  • A new feature labeled as Industry Perspectives will be introduced. Invited speakers from leading industries will exchange ideas and raise research issues with our delegates.

A total of 507 papers were selected for presentation, with an overall acceptance rate of 39%. The acceptance rate per colloquium is given in the table below:

Affirmation forms have also been sent to corresponding authors. The CI office is now compiling that information. Authors are encouraged to complete their affirmations and return to the CI office as soon as possible.

It is the committee’s pleasure to emphasize CI continues to promote the participation of young researchers at the Symposium. Look forward to these special items:

  • A young researcher mixer event will take place on Tuesday evening of the Symposium
  • MS and PhD student paper presenters will receive free registration and a travel stipend from the office
  • Session chairs were selected with the aim to actively involve new and promising researchers in this important task

The local hosts are doing their best to make this a most memorable Symposium, and we look forward to seeing you in Seoul, Korea.
