The Combustion Institute is pleased to announce that the nomination portal for the 2024 Bernard Lewis Fellowship is now open! The Bernard Lewis Fellowship was established to encourage high quality research by young scientists and engineers. Fellowships are awarded at each International Symposium on Combustion. Nominations will be accepted until 21 April 2024

A fellowship consists of a $500 USD cash award, and financial reimbursements for the registration fee for the CI’s 40th International Symposium – Emphasizing Energy Transition, as well as the excursion, the banquet, and hotel accommodations during the Symposium.

Eligible recipients must be:  

  • Students or combustion scientists who have earned their Ph.D. (or equivalent) within three years of the Symposium (2021 or after) 
  • Author of a paper accepted for the CI’s 40th International Symposium – Emphasizing Energy Transition 
  • A member of The Combustion Institute
