On Tuesday, 26 July 2022 the Women in Combustion Luncheon was held in Vancouver, Canada, adjacent to the CI’s 39th International Symposium on Combustion. Over 120 people attended, which included about 10 men. The event was organized by Dr. Frédérique Battin-Leclerc, Dr. Mara de Joannon, and Prof. Terese Løvås

The informal event allowed attendees to share diverse experiences over an informal meal. Female PhD students with presentations at the symposium briefly shared their work, illustrating the large presence of women in the future of combustion science.

A tribute was also paid to Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus, the only former female president of the Combustion Institute, who has been very active in the Women in Combustion initiative. The group identified a need for childcare assistance in the organization of future symposia and was well noted by the group organizing the Milano Symposium in 2024.
