In the United States, the National Science Foundation (NSF) is offering a travel grant to U.S. students who will be attending the 36th International Symposium on Combustion in Seoul, Korea. To apply for the grant, students may download the application and return the completed form to The Combustion Institute office. Travel grants are administered by Prof. Paul D. Ronney, University of Southern California.

Eligibility requirements for this student travel award are as follows: applicants must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident, a current full-time student at an accredited U.S. university, and an author and presenter of a contributed paper accepted by the program committee to present at the 36th Symposium.  A letter of recommendation from your advisor must be submitted with the application.

The 36th Symposium will convene at the Coex Convention & Exhibition Center in Seoul, Korea from Sunday, July 31 through Friday, August 5, 2016. Members are encouraged to register and secure your spot. The biennial Symposium provides a scientific venue for sharing ideas and experiences on the applications of combustion.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent U.S. federal agency created by Congress in 1950 “to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense…” The agency is a funding source for approximately 24 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America’s colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing.
