The Combustion Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of Bénédicte Cuenot and Nils Hansen as the Program Co-Chairs (PCCs) for the 39th International Symposium on Combustion in Vancouver, British Columbia. The PCCs set the tone for the technical program for each symposium, including the selection of invited speakers and oversight of combustion colloquia.

Dr. HdR B. Cuenot is the leader of the combustion research group at CERFACS, Toulouse France. She develops advanced and massively parallel softwares for the numerical simulation (DNS and LES) of turbulent reacting flows, plasma flows and heat transfer (including thermal radiation) in complex geometries. With these tools she conducts fundamental and applied research on pollutant emissions, ignition and extinction, combustion efficiency or thermal fatigue of combustion chambers in the fields of propulsion and energy production. She was elected a Fellow of The Combustion Institute in 2018 and is a member of the Editorial Board of Combustion and Flame since 2018.

Dr. Nils Hansen is Principal Investigator in the “Flame Chemistry and Diagnostics” laboratory at Sandia National Laboratories, Combustion Research Facility, in Livermore, California, USA. His work focuses on unraveling the complexity of reaction networks by providing detailed insights into the fundamental chemistry of low-temperature oxidation and the formation of aromatic species in incomplete combustion processes. He is currently an Associate Editor for The Proceedings of The Combustion Institute and an organizer of the biennial International Workshop on Flame Chemistry series. He was elected a Fellow of The Combustion Institute in 2019.

The 39th Symposium will convene in Vancouver, British Columbia from Sunday, 24 July through Friday, 29 July 2022. The biennial symposium provides a scientific venue for sharing ideas and experiences on the development and applications of combustion science.
